Illinois Mycological Association members... We need your fresh specimens for display at tomorrows public event. Please bring fresh mushroom specimens of all kinds to Patrick and me at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calumet Park 9801 S Avenue G Chicago, Illinois 60617... thanks! Biodiversity Festival followed by Astronomy Party tomorrow, Saturday, May 10th Celebrate biodiversity (including mushrooms!) all day long at Calumet Park with the Illinois Mycological Association, mycologist Patrick Leacock, Rebecca Fyffe and others! Special guests include DIY Garden Expert Mr. Brown Thumb, local birder Charles Anderson, volunteers from the Field Museum, the Illinois Mycological Association, and representation by local conservation groups. Park District partners Pizzo and Associates have provided FREE native plants that participants can Adopt just in time for Mothers Day! Learn how to increase biodiversity at home, how to make flowerpots, start your own seeds, and take home a FREE native plant to call your own! The day will culminate in a family picnic for all participants at 5pm (bring your own food), with trivia and prize giveaways, live performances by Chicago musicians, and will be followed by a relaxing, fun night of astronomy for all. Come for the Biodiversity Festival and stay for the Star Party with the Chicago Park District! Join Chicago Astronomer for a night of stargazing in celebration of National Astronomy Night! The entire family will look through telescopes, learn about the stars, look at nebulae, star clusters, supergiants, planets, and more! Come enjoy the breathtaking views of the night sky. Learn about the phases of the moon, look at other planets, star clusters, and more. Bring a blanket and enjoy a night in the park. All ages are welcome to this FREE event
