Illuminations inception was in April of 2013. I had a vague idea about a story about a couple that I wanted to tell. When I heard the songs Blue Ocean Floor by Justin Timberlake and Touch by Daft Punk, the pieces of the puzzle all came together. I let the idea sit all summer, and then one night in late September, I wrote the opening monologue. In early October, I decided to finish it up before I began UCR. Less than a month later, we held auditions to find out that many were excited to be apart of the project. In mid-November, we had our cast, and on December 8th, we shot most of the opening sequence in Riverside and Santa Monica. We took a hiatus so the holiday season could disappear and give the rest of the film a different look, as if an entire year had gone by through the relationship. We resumed filming in mid-January with the rest of the cast, went to locations such as Fiesta Village in Colton and Burger Boss in Riverside, and filled in the blanks of the opening sequence at various locations in Anaheim and Moreno Valley. Filming ended on March 2nd, the night of the Academy Awards. We watched the Oscars and slated the final shot, a bittersweet feeling. The movie went into post-production for three months, as we did extensive editing, sound design and color correction. Now, the film is yours to see. Hopefully our passion shows in this project and my hope is the film will be at least a fraction as special to you as it is to us. This is a student film after all. And even if the film isnt your fancy, we hope you can respect the fact that we did this with zero resources and only spent $200 on it (which was ALL food for the cast & crew) --everyone involved did this as a favor and for the love of the project. We formed a lot of friendships and memories in the making of this film, and its a wonderful feeling to know this is just the beginning of where were headed. Enjoy. P.S. That goes from the producers down to the extras -- each one was VITAL into helping this get made. So please, be sure to show the love to them also.
