Im Iraqi and I love my country. We are called the Cradle of Civilization and we have a rich and complex history. We even invented beer! So it breaks my heart when I see what is happening today in Iraq. We know about Mosul and whats been happening to the Iraqi Christian population by the killers known as Islamic State. But there is another population of Iraqis that many people do not know about. They are a unique religion and they are called the Yazidis. When I was in Iraq back in 2004, people told me about a fire worshiping religion... they spoke about them like they were a Satanic tribe. This is totally not accurate and based on rumors and urban legends. They are a complex and poetic religion that have roots in Persian culture, but are a type of Kurdish people with a faith linked to an Abrahamic premise. Its a fascinating religion. The Yazidis have been especially brutalized by the Islamic State and they have been pushed out into the mountains and are starving and dying. There are about 40,000 Yazidis that need help. We need to stop the Islamic State! This is a nightmare for all people of Iraq.
