Im ..... Mamie Minch I am from Wilmington, Delaware I play a National Duolian Resophonic Guitar from 1937 When I was 13, I got my first Bo Diddley record, and my mind was blown... I love Lydia Mendoza a lot at the moment -- she is the great Tejano recording star whose career started in the 1930s, Ill be playing this show solo, a mix of acoustic traditional blues and original songs at the show. There was always a guitar hanging around the house, and I got into music by picking it up and learning some of the folk blues stuff that was always floating around my parents house- they had a really good record collection, heavy on early American music. I fell in love hard! I have a lot of musical heroes, some people whove shaped the way I hear music are John Hurt, Memphis Minnie, Marc Ribot, S.E. Rogie, Bessie Smith. Guitar heroes include Mattie Delaney, L.V. Thomas, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Ive played this series a couple of times before, and its always a lovely intimate vibe- I live just a few blocks away, and I love playing right in the hood to coop members! I love Mast Brothers chocolate at the co-op- my grocery trip is not complete without a bar or two... Ill be playing at 7:00 every Saturday in October at Barbes, 376 9th Street at the corner of 6th Avenue here in Park Slope.
