Opening for Paul Reiser was a gift. He is consummate - think Seinfeld, Carlin, Cosby, rolled into one, PG for the most part, absolutely stalks the stage like a dancer (I study performance of solo acts, and his stage craft is the best since watching George Carlins ass from backstage for 100+ shows 2006 - 2008), the humor incisive, warm, and well thought, the timing impeccable. Signed a book for me and was the nicest guy backstage, way supportive, said he loved what I do. Yeah we should work together more... says he in the nicest way. Sure we should. So I ask my agent to get to his agent to set stuff up. I have to follow thee sky-pie things through, or what am I worth, despite their post-show adrenal happy high nicety. Paul, through his agent, called *my* agent this morning, raving about me, and how we indeed do have to work together. You may see me May 10th on Staten Island, and maybe May 22nd in Atlantic City. Thanks Paul Yeah, scrod that this guys show bombed after 2 episodes. It was opposite American Idol. Pfffft. Im a fan. ---------------------------- RIP Rod Kennedy. You loved me. Even when I entered the Kerrville Folk Festival Song Contests in the 80s and you sent my tape back unrewound having only listened to the first 25 seconds of my song. I never, ever let you forget that from the stage. You apparently recognized my performing capabilities, and hired me for many, many MainStage plays there, despite my never having even placed in that competition. Maybe you saw in me what you saw as a fledgling producer at 17 when you produced Cab Calloway for your first show as a producer. More than once you sent me books on aviation in the middle of winter, thinking of me out of the blue, with the briefest of notes. Im looking now at the copy of The Royal Flying Corps In World War 1 that Ive started a few times. You thought of me when you didnt have to. You asked me to sing at your 70th Birthday party. You simply asked me to just do what I do. You gave me the opportunity to make many friends at Kerrvile, amongst them Tom Prasada-Rao, who many confused as one being the other, and I believed you secretly enjoyed our being confused by the throngs of dusty, song-loving, but often comically-myopic white folks that can inhabit those hallowed campgrounds. Tom and I both laugh and learned form that. We became great friends too. I think you hoped my songwriting would get to the point that it was indeed the centerpiece of what I do, rather than my just being able to sing the phonebook. You gave me both stage and opportunity to do both. I hope you saw that happen. It did, and I love you too, and I thank you. xo vance
