Im Only Human — Cheese with that Whine? Sermonars™ by Avis Ward Avis Ward Ministries (This is long. It should have been a note but readership is low for my notes. God wants to bless you so it is posted here on His Kingdom Wall.) When I am weak and/or guilty of sin, the poorest excuse or reason I can give is I am human or I am only human. Of course that is a fact. We are all homo sapiens (human beings). After receiving Christ as LORD and Savior, we become new creations. Are we no longer homo sapiens? (Read the post about silly questions and statements.) For us to say anything to reason or excuse our way out of being weak in a given area is to deprive us of the immediate grace of God so graciously waiting and available to us. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace (Romans 6:14). The truth of Gods word always supersedes facts and quite often confounds the wisest of homo sapiens. As human beings, we cannot commune with God. In our flesh, we are too carnal to be in the presence of God. When we sin, when we are weak, we are prone to sin. We have an affinity to sin because of the Fallen Condition of Man. This separates us from God and He loves us too much to be distant from us, knowing what peril we faced if Someone worthy did not die to sin. He became flesh in the body of Jesus Christ and ransomed His life for ours. And when He had atoned for our sins, He came back to be reunited with Himself; as the Father and the Son are one (John 10:30). When we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, we are saved (Romans 10:9). If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are more than human, in Christ. We are one with the Father, just as Jesus is. And without Christ, yes, we are mere human beings who will return to the dust and live in torment for all eternity. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). There is far too much riding on me being only human. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel (Ephesians 3:6). When weak, pray for strength. When youve sinned, repent. Confess it, receive forgiveness and Gods grace. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness ( John 1:9). Give Him thanks! Do not try to rationalize anything. Thats leaning on your own understanding. Instead, do what the word of God says. Our guidance and direction comes from Him (Proverbs 3:5). ◄ When you are in Christ, you are not only human. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
