Im REALLY not a fan of being called a DJ! Not because I dislike DJs.. there are a ton of phenomenal ones out there.. but because videos like this have become the norm. There are a tremendous amount of other solo performers like myself doing so much on stage with the aid of computers who too often get lumped into this stereotype. I do everything a traditional DJ does (minus scratching - which is in the works! ;) haha) and then I will often play guitar, melodica, or some percussion while simultaneously dub mixing (i.e. leveling, adding delay, verb, and/or about 2 dozen more effects) anywhere from 8-24 tracks at the same time. Oh yea I run my own video projection system at the same time. My set isnt pre-recorded - its all done on the fly and is unique every night. Its amazing I even have time to hit a joint on stage! ;) So again.. not raining on any DJs parades here.. moreover Im just trying to say... DJ is an antiquated term being overused and misused due to a lack of understanding and Im trying to be a positive influence in changing that! Music technology has come a LONG way and were doing things now that no one ever thought possible a generation ago! Im looking forward to music culture gradually learning this lesson and to see what the future holds for music! Respect for the past and excitement for the future. Thats what Im about with my dub mixing philosophy. A hybrid of old and new technology and techniques to create dub reggae music that makes people happy. And if Natalie Paris or any of these others would like a few lessons.. feel free to drop me a line ;)
