Im a baby boom child who is part of the generation that came after - TopicsExpress

Im a baby boom child who is part of the generation that came after WWII, like my cohort in our 60s and 70s. Our parents were of the generation during the Great Depression, which is the origin of this song. They knew the hard times of the joblessness, the succeeding war and the hope that their children would have a better life than they had. For the most part, I think that we did. Schools still were teaching, the university system in California was one of the best in the world, there were jobs. I worked my way through university and graduated with only a minor debt of a student loan taken out in grad school that was the financing of my first trip to Egypt, CDN 1000. It was quite a lot of money in the mid-70s. I look at the future of my own children with a concern that I prefer not to think about. They are both fine so far but, interestingly, neither of them have chosen to have children and it is a decision I can totally understand. I dont find the changes in the world these days at all reassuring, although I work hard to keep hope and to help the younger generation coming up. This has been an incredibly enlightening project, posting a song a day that speaks to my soul. Sometimes, like today, it is a bit uncomfortable, but that is the way of growth and self-knowledge. I havent been tagging people but I think that I will today, and most of them are fogeys, like myself. The longer we have lived, the more music has become part of our soul.
