Im a collector of old military surplus rifles. Bought one while pumping gas today. Guy who knows I Like to mess with with oddballs was showing me one that came with a pistol and muzzle loading rifle. This is an 1897 Steyr. (not an 1895 straight pull M95) This a a turn bolt type rifle, clip drops out the bottom like M95 or Carcano. But the bore is small. 6.5mm is my guess. I have not cast the chamber yet. The bore looks good and overall condition is great for a hundred year old rifle. Anyone know what caliber this is? Im going to need reloading info on the round and if I cant find brass, can the brass be formed from something else? (like 8x54R) Ill post pictures when I get my camera up and running.
