Im a short-hair METALHEAD I love METAL, the pretty extreme subgenres of all kinds, but I never had a long hair in my life, nor have I ever felt the need of it, I also dont dress like extreme metalhead. But still, Id be the first to start a moshpit at my favourite metals show. I always felt like metalhead and for some reasons, I achieved this without all the formalities. Its all about how you feel. If you feel like having long hair, wearing black stuff, chains, tatoos, etc helps you feel that you belong somewhere, go for it. But your hair have nothing to do with being a metalhead.
