Im a winner, a survivor, a record-setter, a history-maker. By conceding to my friend Louise Quinns instigation that we go to the state fair Saturday, we were part of the astounding total of 252,000 people on the grounds that day, an all-time single-day record for the fair. It wasnt hot or oppressive, but it was crowded by the afternoon -- even eerily wall-to-wall in places. Instinct told you to get off the main drag and to the edges. Long lines for anything pleasant, like a milkshake or a beer or walleye cakes, or bench space to enjoy said treat. But we soldiered on and felt good about it. Out in the shuttle lot at sunset we got the last two seats on the next bus. Golden.
