Im afraid that Richard Dawkins has such little understanding of the lessons that fairy tales give our children that he makes these silly statements. The truth is Dawkins is a one-trick pony and once he had attacked religion and established the theory of the selfish gene he had nothing new to say so he has to say the same thing but find new subject matter to apply it to. Religion and fairy tales are a natural evolutionary device that the human mind has needed throughout its development. He does not appear to understand his own theory: the human organism develops in ways it needs to survive and to function. If it weren’t religion we would kill each other over something else, and they would find some other way to keep the species in line. It is our nature to wonder beyond the realms of the here and now. Does Dawkins refuse to read fiction because it is made up, or does it enrich the soul that he does not believe he has?
