Im all about freedom of expression for my kids, as you can see.... What other time in life can you experiment with crazy hair colors, mohawks, etc. and completely enjoy it without worrying about landing a good job, stereotypes, etc.? In the 80s/90s when I was growing up, teenagers had crazy high mohawks, emulated Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, or the Ramones, The Cure, etc. and despite how eclectic; it seemed to be more accepted than it is today (moving backwards much?) When my daughter dyed her hair this color years ago in Jr. High (in open-minded Cali of all places), I was called in by the Principal and told she had to dye it back because it was a distraction. I silently but angrily complied. Of course theres a balance, wearing shorts shorter then your vagina= not cool. But the girl in this article hardly did this, and to top it off was already going thru the anxiety of a new school. I also have to disagree with the notion of policies revolving around letting boys be boys... Psshh, its 2014- isnt it about time we start teaching our boys not to objectify women based on their body, and raising strong young women who are comfortable with theirs? Psshh... this school got it all wrong. hellogiggles/ok-dress-code-policies-shame-young-women/2#read
