Im amazed at people sounding surprised at this england performance. Everyone got their knickers in a twist at an average performance against two teams already out of the qualifiers. Now we play Chile & get taught a lesson on how to play football, retain the ball & attack at pace. Heres the problem....England, its media, its followers of premier league teams, the public & the powersuits of the game. 1- Sky money has ruined the game (forget the notion it has enhanced the product thats bullshit for we make more money globally). 2- The british media who hype average players, (rooney especially) & then destroy them after the underachieve (most recently Joe Hart). 3- Premier league, its clubs, its club owners & the power players, they dont care about the national team, never have never will, its an inconveniance to them. 4- The british public who are continually suckered in to paying more & more each month/year to Sky & now BT (its not free in anyway shape or form!!). Stop paying the extortionate fees & the game will not swim in money & players will then have to earn the right to become millionaires by being the best in their profession. When an average player like Raheem Sterling can be a millionaire before hes achieved anything, thats when the game is back to front. 5- Many of these South American teams, eastern block teams & in some cases african teams have to fight, scratch & kick their way to get to the top of their profession, therefore it means something to them, they have pride, passion & want to stay at the top. Our players are peddled to the top via skys money & often off the back of just a couple of good performances (ox-lade chamberlain, Walcott, Wilshire, Smalling) 6- In the late 80s England took Chile apart in the former rous cup, the team that night was full of players who had earned their way to the top, played in lower leagues, they werent the best in Europe but the had pride, passion & appreciated that playing for their country was the top of their profession. Now you get to the top not via talent but via £££££. Until the British public stop funding the greedy trough monsters the game will never change no matter how many academies or fancy dan st georges parks you build.
