Im an oldie for tonight. But if u ask me - The only other time Hong Kong ever combined with Japan for a reality-anime movie release that was hugely successful was when it was for the manga Peacock King. The cast was 50-50 in terms of demographics. Damn solid CG effects for a 1988 movie. Yuen Biao as Peacock and Hiroshi Minami as Kujaku - The both of them combined for one of the best reality-anime combination of all time in their era. The union of a Japanese Priest and a Tibetan Monk. Convincing. The monsters pretty scary. The material was rubber but they werent afraid to show bent-up bodies as a result of a crush from Hades. Blood was all over. If theres a ever a remake for reality, it better beat this version 1000 times. youtube/watch?v=wrXg5XBmIow The most solid of movies Ive managed to catch tonight. Anime and Manga lovers - if u claim urselves to know Samurai X / Kenshin / etc. This is the father of all religion-magical power in before what manifested in Shaman King, and DGray Man. Even the particular mantra they made precedes I have a date with Vampire series from 1999 - 2004 of Hong Kong where Kuang Tian You and Ma Xiao ling (especially her) made the mantra that Peacock and Kujaku pioneered. The dragon that comes out of Ma Xiao Ling pales in comparison to the Peacock King. Even the theme songs, soundtracks, are all ENGLISH. I dunno what this director was thinking. But what a solid movie this is. Made my Sunday. really.
