Im ashamed of Michael Vick. To take the job of another brother - TopicsExpress

Im ashamed of Michael Vick. To take the job of another brother when there were so many other situations Vick could have forced. Geno Smith who performed in his rookie season at a very high level--compared to many of the all-time greats--and helped the Jets improve from 6-10 and get to 8-8 was a very admirable achievement in his first season. Because the people who help quarterbacks get brilliant-looking passing numbers were of mediocre talent and could not start on a good number of college teams last year, could not rise to the challenge and because Smith was coached and took in-game directions from one of the very worst offensive coordinators and because the media began to spin this entire scenario pre-draft in 2013 we (no they) put Smith in a position where it looked like he was not capable of handling the job. But his performance allowed him to lead his team to an improved record over 2012 because in spite of low touchdown passing numbers and the interceptions, Smith made the plays that helped the Jets win those eight games. If he were white he would be looked at like Elway, Aikman, Manning, peyton and Eli, Tannehill, Luck, and all the rest who necessarily had to but transcended rookie growing pains. He never would have had his work ethic questioned or his leadership ability doubted. But in real life they were never doubted or questioned the media directed by whoever at the NFL level made the stuff up to discredit him from being the first pick in the draft when he had been projected pre-season 2012. So no discredit to Geno Smith. As a combined runner and thrower from the quarterback position, Geno Smith is unequalled in this game of professional football. Undoubtedly, Michael Vick is a great runner, and a great passer. But Smith is a better passer. He is a better passer than all of the so-called elite throwers in the game right now. Of course, despite any ones protest--yes, better than Peyton Manning. And much better than Tom cant effectively throw it downfield past 30 yards Brady. As for Vick, he missed a wonderful opportunity to force the NFL into some new, improved--much improved version of free agency. All the players have now is a process which creates lower salaries for the few young men allowed to gain the experience and skill to be real professionals. Vick, Because the NFL consistently beat the drumbeat that announced to the world for thousands of times that you are felon and that you killed dogs in the pages of the industry media outlet that should be promoting its best people and greatest stars, did not resign you to accepting just any ol bone they threw at you--intended. You had the opportunity to call the NFL bluff and force Congress looking into these matters of diminished salaries in free agency and the reduction of interest in the most powerful free agent to the public perception became evident before free agency started--that you had only one team that you could sign with. For the NFL to sponsor and publicize repeatedly that concept and foster that public perception is against the spirit of any form of real free agency and against the concept that you and any other player of your stature should be able to play for more money, not less. I am sure the NFL is already strategically sound on how they will exit you out at the end of the 2014 season, relieving them of any possibility that you will somehow end up in the Super Bowl or in the Hall of Fame. Meanwhile for anyone watching you play it is abundantly evident that the NFL has allowed you to be beat up and in 2012 and 2013 they took spearing to a new level. They will allow you to be beaten to a pulp, maybe this season not even one roughing the passer. You will have then accepted a dog biscuit for a temporary treat instead of pushing for justice, not for only yourself but for the young brothers coming after. Oh, and I know you think. Gotta take care of mine. But you could have done so much better for so many.
