Im at HCMC waiting for my son Ian to be scheduled for surgery. A good thing about HCMC is that it is a trauma center, with tons of experience and expertise. A bad thing about HCMC is that it is a trauma center, and the policy is worst come first served. Ian is all psyched up to get this over with, and the waiting is hard. He was brought here Wednesday afternoon after a car ran into him as he waited to make a left turn on his motorcycle. His quirky humor and wit are intact but his shoulder, ribs, and pelvis didnt fare as well. He cant bear weight now, but a plate in the pelvis and lots of hard rehab work should fix that. Two things could postpone todays surgery -- if the ultrasound shows blood clots in his legs, or if someone comes in with a more urgent need. Ian remains in good spirits (and on lots of pain mess.)
