Im at Stanford to talk about My Year of Meats for the Three Books program tomorrow. Its been a long time, almost eighteen years, since I started doing the research for this book, so I felt the need to, um, beef up on the subject. How have things changed? Has the situation improved? Apparently, not. The BBC carried this story two weeks ago about new research from Cambridge and Aberdeen Universities, estimating that greenhouse gases from food production will go up 80% if meat and dairy consumption continues to rise at its current rate. The facts havent changed, but the numbers are far more disturbing.
