Im at a loss of words today for something that happened to me. A journalist reached out to me to interview me for an Islamic magazine. Upon submitting the final manuscript to the Islamic magazine, the magazine editors saw I am an Ahmadi Muslim and refused to run the piece. They refused to run the interview exclusively b/c I am an Ahmadi Muslim. This is August 7, 2014, United States of America. This isnt the first time an Ahmadi Muslim has been censored because s/he is Ahmadi Muslim. And it wont be the last either. This censorship and boycott is what the early Muslims went through and it was destined that the latter day Muslims who accepted the latter day Messiah and Mahdi would experience the same struggle. The Quran teaches to let not anothers injustice cause you to act other than with justice. I pray for the person who rejected the interview on account of my faith. But imagine this: If this type of intolerance exists today in America, you can only imagine how much worse it is in countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Libya. It is this intolerance that caused the murder of 4 innocent Ahmadi Muslims in Gujranwala Pakistan the last week of Ramadan, or the murder of Dr. Mehdi Ali Qamar as he tried to offer free medical care, or the murder of 86 Ahmadi Muslims in broad daylight on May 28, 2010 -- each of which (along w/some 300 other murders of Ahmadi Muslims) havent resulted in a single conviction. In complete honesty I am hurt about one thing only; that the editors hatred for Ahmadi Muslims surpasses their love for the Prophet Muhammad(sa). For them it apparently wasnt enough that my prime motivation to fight for human rights and equality and love is Hazrat KhatamUnNabiyyin Muhammad Mustafa (sa). This means I have failed to properly show my love for Prophet Muhammad(sa). This is my shortcoming. But at the same time it is motivation to me to increase my efforts by my actions, not just by my words. May God enable me to do so. In the meantime, know that the curse of being The Wrong Kind of Muslim is alive and well in the United States. Dont think were out of the woods yet my friends. We have a long way to go. In Pakistan it started out with mere censorship and grew to what is now ongoing and unmitigated terrorism. Lets stop this censorship now and move towards the pluralistic society we all want tomorrow. We do that quite simply by...you guessed it, winning the hearts.
