Im awake and have been reminiscing. Easy to do when you are my age... what happened 5 minutes ago often seems like a distant memory :-) Since I have learned about the chances I may walk again, I have posted loud and clear my story all over the place. The responses by the people who knew me back then, when the accident happened, 4th September 1976... and since....the comments, memories shared and good wishes,.. the heartfelt hopes, and so many people I know only through Facebook who wish me well is astounding. ...it all adds up to an overwhelming sense of oh my heavens, how can this not happen? Do you all realize that as a collective energy, a collective good vibes gang, you have boosted my belief in miracles far more than anyone could imagine???? Oh I know there is a chance I will not be accepted, but I am opting to believe I will walk by 8 Feb 2016. I remember when I first had my accident and lost my leg, I fought hard to remain independent. That was pretty hard on my family I discovered years later, the whole scenario was hard on them. Our parents (yes I share them with 6 siblings), were tough as nails and I honestly have no idea how they coped. I was a spitfire at times, and determined to do everything for myself. My brothers dealt with things in their own way, I am sad to say I never spoke of it much with them. Neil I knew was frustrated because he could not fix things for me like he had always done as my big brother, Peter had his own new family, Ken was one of my constants with his never dimming sense of humor, even presented me with a book to celebrate my release from hospital The Non Runners Handbook... fitting and a good laugh to read. My 3 younger siblings were quite young. Russell fell climbing a tree and ended up in Dalby hospital with me as he had glass removed from his hand... he was present for a few procedures to make sure I was ok, and to ask the nurses 20 questions. Bronwyn was devestated I believe, shocked... and took a while to recover, and Terry made it his job to look out for my little ones, Shirsty, TJ & Deleta. It was with the thoughtfulness and kindnesses of many that we all got through that time. I could not hope to name everyone, nor could I hope to repay them all, but I do and have always been aware and appreciated greatly what was done for us all. Ironically it was on the anniversary of that day, in the Dalby Hospital, where I welcomed my eldest girls firstborn into the world 21 years later. So I am giving thanks to every single person who has helped me walk this long winding road I chose ..know you are never forgotten. Those like Noel MacIntyre, Ray Young, Mr & Mrs Clarrie Naughtin, June Sutton, Brad Faulkner, Debbie Strickland, Lance McAuley, my family.... so many many more.... you are never forgotten... ever! Blessings to you all...
