Im becoming increasingly conflicted on the benefits of me personally using this website that really is less of a social network at this point and more a advertising and marketing data platform. To many of you I know this is not really an argument that bothers you much...but I find myself liking Facebook the company less and less. I struggle to justify why I am using this site, and does the benefits still outweigh the negatives for me. I understand Facebook is a business and they need to make money to keep going. Fine. I get it. I just am not really on board with me willingly giving them all this data on myself and my friends to market and use. There are people I keep in touch with through this site...but I notice that I see less and less of you on my feed anyway as this site gears itself to what it believes I need to see. So what do I do? Ignore it and pretend its not happening and Im fine with it (Im really not...this isnt the kind of internet that I want to support)? Leave the profile as a shadow presence on here so I can interact here if I choose? Take it down outright and stop using facebook and focus on the other social networks that I prefer (even though one I use a lot is still owned by facebook)? I have a perfectly functioning website of my own that people can find me if they enter me into any search engine. Should I really stay here?
