Im blessed appears to have become another thats awesome catch phrase thrown around without much thought or sincerity. While its true that Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James 1.17), its also true that he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5.45). I dont mean to rain on anyones parade and I certainly dont want to rob God of the praise hes due but sometimes its good to realize that we arent always that special and were certainly not deserving of everything given and/or withheld from us. That would entitlement. A good test might be learning to ask ourselves with every blessing received - Did I really deserve that and what have I surrendered of myself back to the Lord as worship other than lip service? Most of us, including me, will probably discover that we got blessed because God does good things for many people and that we have done very little in the form of praise, worship, prayer (other than to ask for more blessings) or obedience to prove our thankful words. Were just enjoying a little free sunshine like everyone else and thinking were the only ones wet when it rains. These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. - Matthew 15.8
