Im both sad and relieved to say that my Great Uncle just passed. He can be at peace now. RIP to my Big Uncle Gene - a one of a kind, broke the mold after they made him, crusty on the outside and smooshy sweet on the inside, loud, boisterous, sassy and smart as a whip fella who adored kids, had a big adventure with life and touched a lot of folks along the way. Your heart, your energy, your wicked sharp sense of humor, your cranky pants exterior that any kid could see through, your crazy eyebrows and facial expressions, and yes, even those dentures you always clacked at me to scare me, will be sorely missed. Im thrilled beyond belief to have spent time with you these last few days. To make you smile a few times, to bring a small amount of comfort to you, to give you back some of the teasing you always gave out, to listen to Big Band music with you and hold your hands and pretend to dance with you while you somehow managed to tap along with your tired feet, and to annoy the hell out of you by smooching your neck and have you swat me away, even though I know inside you secretly loved it. Wanna honor Uncle Genes life? Go out in the world and play today, do it really loud and full tilt. Take a 3 mile walk, collect aluminum cans and start a savings fund for someone you love, be really smart with your money, mentor or play with a kid, build or install something for somebody, tell a really funny story and gesture wildly with every facial muscle you have, especially your eyebrows. Above all, be sarcastic with a twinkle in your eye while doing any of the above. Uncle Gene would really like that.
