Im certain that many of my liberal friends are anticipating that I will react in opposition to the presidents address. I sat and listened and tried to absorb every word that he said. I wouldnt like for anyone to describe me as one of the uninformed voters! I am neither Democrat, nor Republican. I am simply a moderate-conservative independent who merely votes as I deem best for our country. One of the ironies of the presidents speech came in the final twenty minutes or so of it. Perhaps after he said, Finally... It was the first time Ive ever heard him speak when he actually sounded sincere. The audible change in his voice from campaign-speak to sincerity was a pleasant departure from his usual style. Ive heard him speak when he was a Senator, and his demeanor was more like those days, before he was trained to rant differently. I say that this brilliant part of the presidents speech was ironic in that it was probably his least sincere and least honest. Here he was, the same man who has so willingly and liberally brandished his pen, phone, and power of veto, claiming to want a non-partisan approach and proclaiming to work with the Republicans to do nicey-nice things for America, to put our country first! I am deeply regretful that six years of evidence to the contrary leads me to believe that, one again, he was trying to mislead the American people. I have no comment about the first 40-45 of the speech. The diatribe was pretty much business as usual. But, friend & foe, I read nothing into the latter part of the speach to convince me of his purported sincerity. Let me also say this ~ especially as an independent ~ I found it off-putting to witness Republicans rising to applaud when he was clearly patronizing the American people and our military in particular. Oh, and by the way, did you notice the expressions on the faces of the Joint Chiefs toward the end of his speech? There was a reason for their scowls! So, Obama-lovers, Obama-haters, and loyal-Americans... you all three have my honest and best take on tonights speech. My sincerest prayer is that I hope that all of his talking points come true, but I was left with only the greatest worries and little more than doubts. The man is the consumate politician and a devout marxist and he said nothing to dissuade me of that cruel reality. Two more years of heartache, division, and strife; afterward, who knows? It is in the hands of 50% +1 of Americans!
