Im certainly not advocating we all go live in shacks but I hear so - TopicsExpress

Im certainly not advocating we all go live in shacks but I hear so many people these days talk about downsizing and most of these arent talking about a condo or a townhouse that will run them $250,000-$300,000 or more with big monthly association fees. There are many single people and couples (think empty nesters) who just want a very simple basic but highly energy efficient home perhaps in a community of such homes to attract like minded people not your standard cookie cutter subdivision but perhaps laid out more like a campground with community gathering spots like around a fire pit a community building where get to-gathers could be held cookouts etc. A common building for some storage spaces. All this being done and keeping costs very affordable, it can be done but again cannot be the standard little boxes all in a row each one looking just alike with amenities nobody uses but has to pay dearly for. Living a more minimalist lifestyle is the name of the game for many down to earth type people. A lot of what I see on this topic goes to a very small extreme often 200 sq feet homes some but not many could live in something that small but just think about your own home how many square feet do you actually live in? For most of us its way less than half of the square footage we spend lots of money to heat, cool, furnish, upkeep, pay taxes on etc. I just ordered this book which is probably to the smallest extreme but interesting just the same. shelterpub/_affiliate/tinyhouseblog.html
