Im conflicted about both the St. Paddys controversy and the Ellen comment controversy. At face value, as a smart ass myself, I do not take these things so seriously and I feel like it makes us seem very uncooperative a community, especially in the case of the parades because they are after all, religion based. Forcing a gay presence where we dont need to necessarily be is sort of trivial. But the idea that we are banned, or cannot participate, and if groups are pulling out if we participate does make it a very valid rights battle. Same w transphobic comments. There has been so much violence against the trans community that it seems ridiculous to split hairs over comments that are obviously not malicious. On the other side, if these infringements are not recognized, they continue to be acceptable. I hate people that jump to making mountains out of mole hills but I also understand a necessity for precautionary defensive measures.
