Im currently involved in a private discussion with a facebook friend who openly wrote I support Hamas in a message back to me. Despite this being shocking in the first instance, as the Hamas Charter says The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him, it is actually refreshing, weve had some very interesting (and personally respectful) exchanges and will continue to do so. Its a telling marker of how dire the situation is, that a conversation with someone who openly supports Hamas seems like a positive thing. I rue this descent into widespread swathes of the worlds population supporting an anti-gay and anti-womens rights, Jihadist militant group that openly promotes and encourages murder and genocide. It is frightening. However, there have been so many people Ive tried to engage with on facebook this week who have avoided my questions, or posted some links to extreme articles then metaphorically run off. People who have extremely strong views but no idea why they have them. At least we are engaging. Hamas will not talk to Israel but this Hamas supporter is talking to a Zionist. Maybe thats a minuscule glimmer of hope for us all.
