Im currently making a maids costume for a 1920s LARP, and struggling slightly with how the top part connects to the waistband. Im basing it on this one from Downton Abbey (I know its a bit early, I want something versatile that could pass as from a wide section of history). I can get the bottom part onto the waistband without a problem, and the top part onto the shoulder straps. But Im at a loss as to how to get the two halves together without having really obvious unsightly stitching. Should I sew it the top section onto the back of the waistband before I fold it and sew it down?
