Im devastated to hear that Chris McNeill has died. Ive been thinking a lot today about how fortunate so many Yukoners were to have him as a teacher. Im thinking about how our class performed Monty Python role plays to learn about alternative governance systems. Im thinking about Chris coming to school dressed fully in 1920s mountaineering regalia as we studied George Mallory and Mt Everest. Im thinking about how Chris made mundane grammar units entertaining by drudging up ridiculous eighties cartoons like unpack your adjectives. There are a lot of adjectives to unpack to describe how good of a teacher and a person Chris was. Im thinking about far Chris went out of his way to help me. I know that he gave the same respect and support to all his students. Im thinking about how young he was. Im thinking about how my nieces and nephew wont ever get to have him when theyre in grade eight. Im very sad, but also hugely appreciative of everything Chris gave us.
