Im driving to work last night, and running a few minutes late. Naturally my vehicle is exceeding the posted speed limit - a LOT. I know the back roads well so Im comfortable at 50-60 mph. And because I work 3rd shift and its 10:45 pm, I know there are no cops on this road at this hour, Ive never seen one since I started this job. Headlights crest the hill above and my foot comes off the gas (just in case). But the lights are a little too high up and close together. Probably an SUV. Next thing I know Im slowing down to 40 mph. Its LITERALLY like my foot decided on its own to step on the brake. Sure enough as I pass, my lights reflect of its Toyota logo on the front grill and a quick look in the rear view shows the distinctive shape of a Rav4. Huh, weird. Im about to step on the gas and get back up to speed when another set of lights appeared ahead. A car this time, and sure enough, as I pass I see the big bright POLICE painted on the side. His taillights obscure as I round the next bend, and Im back up to 60 mph with my perfect driving record intact! (AND I made it to work on time) When I learned that drill from Docs book a few years ago, I thought it was cool and practiced it regularly for a month or so, gradually falling out of the habit until it was forgotten. . . Or so I thought! Thank you Doc for teaching me that one! Im going back to read that book again (and again) to see what else is in there that I missed! Thars gold in them thar pages boys! And Ima goin prospectin! Thanks again Doc!
