Im finding myself accused of defending atrocities that dont fit - TopicsExpress

Im finding myself accused of defending atrocities that dont fit any definition of atrocity I can find, genocide that doesnt fit any definition of genocide I can find, murder that doesnt fit any definition of murder I can find, massacres that dont fit any definition of massacre I can find, an apartheid that even Nelson Mandela, for all his scathing criticisms of that nation, never called apartheid. In the last straw from a now-ex-friend, I was accused not only of defending or excusing away genocide, but of actually /favoring/ genocide. (Bye, guy. Wont be seeing you on Facebook again.) The tragic history of one side is all-important, but to bring in historical context for the other side is considered insultingly and idiotically impertinent -- even though that historical context is replete with /real/ ethnic extinction events never faced by the side they sympathize with. And Im getting all this from people I know to be very intelligent. So Im bowing out of these debates. The view is too depressing, and life is too short.
