Im finding that many individuals and organizations in the agricultural industry, including the National Cattlemans Beef Board and American Farm Bureau, feel that responding to negative attacks on production methods simply gives some sort of credence to the naysayers point of view. It is better to not justify the accusation with a response, thus lessening the focus on the issue. These large industry organizations want bloggers to fight the fight.... farm moms to appeal on an emotional level...and ineffective press releases to reach the masses. Everything in me says this old school mentality of acquiescence isnt doing anybody who farms any real good. I believe we should address head-on the issues that are creating cynicism amongst consumers. Bombard them with the facts/truth about gmo safety. Moms walk into a grocery store - and there it is - a poster stating the many unbiased reputable organizations that support the safety and nutrition of biotechnology. Unfortunately, they see and hear the opposite constantly. Why wouldnt they believe what has become common knowledge that gmos equal everything bad? Any other thoughts?
