Im finding that more and more of these male celebrities (John Legend, Terry Crews, Alan Alda, and now Joesph Gordon Levitt ) who openly back feminism and even go as far as to label themselves as one honestly have no idea what that movement stands for. I wonder if these men knew that the womens suffrage movement was supported by the KKK because they couldnt fathom the idea that their precious lilies having less voting power than the black men men who were willing to be lynched for investing in the civil rights which INCLUDED black women but some how we missed that (shrug). I also wonder if these men know that while they join hands with women to support the VAWA they remain silent about Teen Mom Sensation Amber Portwood and the oh so lovely Lorena Bobbitt. Or how about dear old secretary of the state Hilary Clinton teamed up with who pushed for a whopping 28 million circumcisions during a tour of Sub Saharan Africa over a seriously flawed and biased correlation of male genital mutilation and the AIDS epidemic. To be honest I can say I am surprised but just a message to the men out there who say they care about womens rights. Its one thing to support the rights, concerns, and avenues of empowerment for women but its another thing to do it at the expense of you and the things that make you a man and there is no reason for you to support a movement that encourages you to suppress or be even slightly ashamed of that.
