Im for open immigration, but so are most politicians--not because of any principle: they think it benefits them--and our politicians mostly stink. Its not necessarily racism and/or economic ignorance that causes people to turn against immigration--there are plenty of other reasons. If our politicians were less awful and freed up our economy, thereby restoring growth and prosperity, a lot of the problems of immigration would be a lot less problematic, and a lot of the more sensible protests of UKIP and the Tea Party (on, for example, the unaccountable EU superstate and DC overspending) would draw a lot less sneering from the sensible mainstream media/political/cultural establishment.
