Im friends with a lot of artists, and if Im being perfectly honest, Ill admit Im often overcome by a feeling of dread when a friend asks me to come see their play/concert/cabaret/film/dance piece/sketch comedy group/stand-up routine/devised piece/performance as the red-legged moll who hands out Chicago fliers in Times Square. Ive done my fair share of performing, and sometimes, you wind up in a real turkey. Hopefully, you know it, but sometimes you dont...and your friends suffer through it. Nevertheless, I try to be supportive as often as I can. With that in mind, a few months ago, I went to see my childhood friend Julia Morrisons film with no real expectations, and Im thrilled to say its one of the best films Ive witnessed within the last few years. Hank and Asha is such a wonderfully charming love story told in a very modern way. Many feel as though technology has isolated us, but this film portrays a very different and creative use of technology that brings two people together in an incredibly intimate and engaging way. Theirs is a beautiful tale that will melt even the the most callous cynics heart, and I know because I am that most callous cynic. If youre in the New York area, I strongly encourage you to see this delightful work of art. Ill stake whats left of my reputation on it.
