Im gana go out on a limb here and go ahead and say all this Iggy Azealea hate is gross. The girl was asked if there was equality between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. Her answer - in short and minus her ignorance to the subject was no. Over all, her response was that non Indigenous Australians dont respect or acknowledge Aboriginal culture.. Which I think most of us will agree on. Now the part that I can understand - why people, my people got upset about was the part where she elaborated with a surge or verbal diarrhoea about Aboriginal people dragging their mattresses out to sleep under the stars & purposely destroying government issued homes as a rebellion agains western culture.. Ignorant? Absolutely - Yes! But Racist? No. She obviously is lacking in information/education of contemporary Aboriginal culture (and culture in general for that matter) But does calling her a dumb white sl*t or racially slurring her validate your opinion of what the real issue here is? Racism is a 2 way street, and the girl is obviously not an expert on the issue.. We know this but shes a n entertainer not a national ambassador for Aboriginal people (Thank Phuck!) but my point is- if we as a country are ever to move past inequality and ignorance, education is the only thing that will eradicate this type of shit.. Not responding with racial vilification. If we want people to take a proactive position towards reconciliation (regardless of race) we ALL need to decide that condemning each other achieves nothing & education achieves everything that reconciliation stands for. But thats just my opinion .. One love!
