Im generally not well informed when it comes to current affairs - big surprise - but this really hits home. Peaceful protests in hong kong were held on wednesday to oppose china, who reneged a treaty made back in 1997, and therefore, essentially eliminated what defines of hong kong - an autonomous city of china, governed by democracy. To my horror, i learned that last night, the city I grew up in, experienced a traumatising turn of events. The movement, #OccupyCentral, spiralled out of control resulting in the release of tear gas on unarmed civilians. The orders to do so were allegedly given by the mainland, and the scene depicted a frightening, all too familiar event - tiananmen. If youre someone who doesnt know the difference between hong kong and china (u kno who u r and i will come eat ur dog) THIS is the difference. If youre someone whos living right in the middle of all this rn, this isnt going to stop me from visiting lol, so pls stay safe until i see u frst !!
