Im glad racism is openly discussed in Cuba--as for the persistence of prostitution---that is a direct result of the blockade as for religion which the author (cubas greatest novelist) lumps together with racism and prostitution I got no problem with that. Anyone who denies racism still exists in Cuba is a fool --Fidel and Raul dont deny it but anyone who paints with a broad brush who say equates racial disparities in Cuba with the US and denies racism has been significantly diminished in Cuba is a bigger fool. If Cuba does not get Americanized by US recognition and the level of poverty decreases so will other pathologies--and finally a lot of Cuban blood was shed for Africa and that is a fact. American black kids are getting free medical education; thats a fact too--that is not an excuse but it does raise questions about personal agendas. Racism is a pathology that goes back hundreds of years and it is going to take strong continuous measures not only abolish it legally (that has been done) but anthropologically which is why it is absolutely necessary that Cuba not be taken in by American candy. Look: under Tito, Croatians and Serbs were intermarrying--as soon as he died with the help of Clinton they started killing each other. My strong feeling is that the pathologies that still exist in Cuba have been exacerbated indeed created by US Imperialism but it is essential that Cuba take responsibility for them--remember your Greek mythology Oedipus was told he would kill his father and marry his mother and he did--it was not his fault and yet he tears his eyes out anyway --he assumes responsibility anyway as should Cuba as I believe it has and must continue to do with increased vigor. The case of Tito shows us Laws alone will not make it go away. Cuba is not utopia and in welcome contrast to a lot of other socialist countries never claimed that is was--and it acknowledges its problems --it is on the right track and having said what I have just said anyone who denies that most of Cubas problems have been caused by an unceasing 54 year attack is either an idiot or an outright enemy of socialist progress. Call it a paradoxical cliche modern social pathologies are caused by international capital bottom line. Point two you cannot use that as an excuse to pretend the Pathology does not exist. I assure you that if Cuba returns to the Gambling capital of the world whatever racism exists in Cuba now will look like chump change.
