Im going to a conference that occurs once every two years in LA for writers of musical plays. I just found out about it a few days ago, One of the cool things about it is you get to submit up to ten pages of one script along with a song(s) to a panel for consideration of a read/sing in front of the conference and live feedback from major industry pros, So, Im tweaking pages from one of my musicals and having Gene put together the required song chart and demo. Its hard to choose which play to submit, let alone which scene and which song. One cannot show the extent of a play in ten pages or less. But it is an interesting exercise to tweak a scene all by itself with no past script reference to be included. I love writing musical theater and have been doing so since I was a kid. Im really great at it and had a few of my works produced in casino showrooms. I also had a musical backed and ready to go to Broadway with James Nederlander Sr. In 1987. But my contact died two weeks prior to our going to NYC. I was born to do this and even though it is a glass ceiling difficult to break, my soul would die if I gave up. So, I keep going with the knowledge that Im good enough to be in the circles toward which I strive. Thats all any of us can do is to keep learning, growing and to have faith in ourselves and what we know we can accomplish. At least we know we are giving it our all. And that, my friends, is a noble undertaking! Give it your all! There is sheer joy even in creating your best work! Its like giving birth to magic...
