Im going to be controversial here and wade right into the fray because, you know, arguing on Facebook is my current career. I say, who cares? Why do we care? Its a church. Thats what religion is. A group of people who do things differently than other people. He married other mens wives. And those same men followed him across the country risking their lives for this religion. It was their choice. The women, not their choice. But, thats not unique to Mormon history...women not having power. What religion doesnt have skeletons in its cavernous closet? What nation? What family? Anyway. I felt the same way with the whole Ordain Women thing. Yes. Women should have equal rights. But, if we tell a church they have to change their fundamental truths to conform to someone elses beliefs, we should be OK with that same church telling people who arent in their flock that they cant marry the people they love. Now, go ahead. Tell me Im crazy. Now, the marrying a 14 year old part is very objectionable. But, again, Im quite certain the marrying of 14 year-olds was not something unique to Mormons in the 1830s. I give the women/gays/blacks in your church enough credit to leave if they dont like the way they are being treated. Just let the Mormons do their thing. Mormons, let folks who arent Mormon do their thing. Glad you arent OK with marrying off 14 year-olds anymore. Glad you dont do that polygamy thing anymore, but hey, if you wanted to recommence and everyone involved was on board this time around, why not? (I might just ask Greg to take one of my friends as his second wife just so we could gang up on him and actually turn up the furnace in this ice chest of a house.) Im going to be OK with gay marriage, though, OK? nytimes/2014/11/11/us/its-official-mormon-founder-had-up-to-40-wives.html?_r=0
