Im going to continue the debate on white privilege, because I can, - TopicsExpress

Im going to continue the debate on white privilege, because I can, and because it intrigues me. In the most respectful way possible, I would like to know how I have white privilege. I am white, but I came from a very diverse area, where Caucasian was the smallest racial group. Growing up, I never truly felt like I belonged, as people who were similar to me were few and far between. From middle school on, there were numerous times where I was treated worse by people simply because of the color of my skin. Many groups at my schools were simply inaccessible for most white people. And come senior year, I got to watch many of my classmates get into to Berkeley and Harvard with worse grades and fewer extracurriculars. I completely understand that this is not the case in most of the US, in fact, the reverse is normally true. But I believe that this white privilege is not because white people are inherently malevolent or trying to keep minorities down. It is simply the result of white being the racial majority in this country. People usually associate and watch out for others who are similar to them. Even if we were able to wipe out the notion of race, which is a human construct, people would just begin to identify with something else. We would then see things like Christian privilege (which is already a thing, by the way, try getting elected president as a non-Christian). To sum it up, I feel like the privileges white people get are due to the psychological desire to associate with other people like you, which is just human nature.
