Im going to crawl way out on this holiday limb to say: Why dont we just skip Thanksgiving? I mean Christmas stuff is already everywhere before the turkey is even stuffedl, and isnt Thanksgiving sort of a phony holiday anyway, considering how we treated the Indians after they welcomed and fed us? Not that there arent other things to be thankful for, like a nice overstuffed recliner to sink into after the stuffing stuffers get stuffed. But only one person gets their wish after tugging apart the wishbone, which, considering the way they produce turkeys these days, those bones are like plastic. That turkey dont fly. There is a lot more to wish for (and pray, if you will) like world peace or saving the earth. One of those wishes would be great to be thankful for ( one wish only). Too bad most of the wishes go toward getting the Black Friday doorbusters (a truer American holiday). Do we really need a stuff and splurge national holiday? We have a huge blow-things-up holiday, and the national minimum wage poor peoples Labor Day festivities, and the dress up like dead people day. If we have to have a turkey day, couldnt we at least have it on a Monday. Another three day weekend would something to be thankful for. But imagine, if we got rid of Thanksgiving, all those hungry kids and homeless people wouldnt have to feel bad about being hungry when the whole Country is getting stuffed, not to mention that turkeys could go back to being just regular birds instead of over-sized breasts with legs.
