Im going to say this once, and only once: Our Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal. While it is true that our nation doesnt have a good record of adherence to that principle, but we are constantly striving for that more perfect Union. Our nation will never be perfect, but it is our job to constantly strive for perfection and equality. Today, the United States Supreme Court dragged our nation farther into inequality. Money does not, and should not equal free speech. A wealthy American voice should be just as loud as an impoverished one. The rich are no more important than the poor. If you disagree with me; if you feel that the wealthy are better than the poor, that their voices are somehow more important than mine simply because they have more money than I, if you feel that a corporation really is a person, then Id like you to pay very good attention to this next sentence. You are wrong. I pride myself on seeing other viewpoints, and a willingness to change my mind in the light of new evidence, but this is one stance that I refuse to change. People are people. Money doesnt equal free speech. The Supreme Court was wrong today, and if you agree with their ruling, youre wrong, too.
