Im going to tell you a true story about the question I asked, if anyone spent their honeymoon in Middlebourne. In `1955 my lady and I were married in Spencer, WV. At the time I worked in Columbus, Ohio for the power company and Nelda lived at home with her parents. We didnt have a place in Columbus to live and I came to Spencer on the weekend. The weekend we were married we didnt have a pot to plant a petunia in so we couldnt take an ocean voyage, trip to the beach, Niagra Falls or any of the other places that people go on their honeymoon. I had only three days before going back to work so we couldnt go far and as a result we came to Middlebourne and stayed at the Arta Gregg Hilton on Staley Street. By day we took our meals at the famous Laura Carpentier Restaurant. During the day we would tour the local landmarks such as the county poor farm and take cruises on the Middle Island Belle a 12 foot flat bottom boat. At night we would sit around the radio and listen to Oxydols own Ma perkins or Tender Leaf Teas, The Barber family. All in all we didnt have much but we had each other and it lasted for 47 years. I have always wondered if anyone else ever had a honeymoon in Middlebourne.
