Im having mixed emotions today. The ship I served on in the Navy - TopicsExpress

Im having mixed emotions today. The ship I served on in the Navy (another lifetime ago), the USS Constellation, CV-64, is being towed from Bremerton, WA to Brownsville, Texas to be scrapped. It was decommissioned in 2003 and towed to Bremerton to join the inactive ships fleet, where it has been sitting near her sisters, the USS Kitty Hawk, the USS Ranger, and the USS Independence, all conventional carriers. If you had a chance to go to Bremerton during that time, seeing so much power in such close proximity was an awe-inspiring sight to see. I spent my time on board working to keep her both afloat and intact, only to see her now headed for recycling. Its painful to know that she could become 60,000 tons of razor blades. But the logical part of me knows that Connie wasnt the steel afloat on the oceans, rather Connie was the crew serving in the same capacity as me, all with the same goal...to keep her fully functional for whatever challenges she was needed for that day. So if any of my Puget Sound friends are around this evening and have a view of the water, the latest departure time has been set at 5PM today, Friday, 8/8/2014, If you could get pics of her on her last trip, Id appreciate it. Farewell, Connie, you were a pain then, but you taught me well. Youll be missed, Americas Flagship.
