Im heading out to spend the day in the garden. And when I say day, I mean D. A. Y. Yes, I can do that. Ill find things to do if I run out; if nothing else Ill sit by the fire pit and dream of fires in the winter months. While Im staring into empty space, Ill make the decision on the crabapple I plan to plant in a game-changing place. (More on that later.) Lily and I will plant lettuce, spinach, broccoli, and new conifer, and watch the partridge in the pear tree. Well put out some meal worms for the birds. The sedum my friend Vivien Phillips shared with Beth and I last fall will be divided and spread throughout the garden to increase the visibility of my lost friend. (RIP, Vivien.) I will stop to admire the clouds and sit in the Love Shack or back porch if a pop up storm arrives. I will relish the first day of our metrological fall. Yes, it all begins with autumn.
