Im in NYC today for business and just checked in to the famed New York Palace on Madison Avenue. Certainly the most unprofessional front desk experience Ive had in a number of years. Not because there was a line—no one was waiting—but because the lovely lady who checked me in was completely indifferent. There was no; Welcome to the Palace, descriptions of what the hotel has to offer me as a guest, confirmation of my rate, or any questions like; where are your traveling from today, is there anything I may assist you with... dinner reservations, directions, special needs... but most egregious of all, not a glimpse of a smile or eye contact. After giving me my room key, she picked up the phone to request a bellman to the front to assist with me with my luggage, and went back to looking down at her computer monitor. I waited... I waited a little longer... and finally asked her; Are you done with me? She responded yes. A bellman will help you to your room. I waited for the; Have a nice stay at the Palace, but it never came. Certainly not the hospitality I expected. Very disappointing way to begin a hotel stay.
