Im just finding out that today is CP awareness day!!! CP, like so many other disorders, has a wide range of severity. Im sure many of you know someone who has CP and you dont even know it! They may walk with a slight limp or may not be able to run a long distance but it really doesnt affect their every day life. Then there are people who have severe CP who are wheel chair bound, their bodies are contorted because of muscle spasticity, and they seem to be in their own world mentally separated from our world. Evan is our face of CP! His neurologist states Evan has moderate to severe CP because of his inability to walk, talk, poor fine/gross motor skills, and his decrease in white matter in his brain. He is severely globally delayed. Evan however is hypotonic CP, meaning he has low muscle tone. CP to us is a big beautiful smile on one amazing boy! Its an infectious laugh that warms the coldest heart. Its the positive attitude and humor during some very unpleasant times. Its a never give up and never give in attitude through countless therapy sessions. CP is a diagnosis...it is not Evan!!! I am proud of our sweet little boy...
