Im just sharing this post from Tita Terri Selga Busby..Marcos uncle Rico flew to the Philippines with his team to volunteer. Please read, this is the reality! Im so sad. Thank you Tita Terri for sharing and thank you so much Rico, we appreciate what you do. Its 0415 and I just got off with my brother Enrico Selga. He and his team went down to Samar and this is what he relayed. They flew in to Samar via C130s. They were only allowed to carry 1 bag. Rico had 3 liters of water and power bars to consume. When they got there, they did a recon of the area. He saw what is left of a garage (1/2 the size of our US garages) and there were 12 people living in it with 1 liter of water to share. People are living in streets. Children ages 6 months to 2 years are most vulnerable, starving bec there is no formula or water. There is (1) one satellite phone and people are given 60 seconds to make a call. In the heat, they line up starting at 0400 and at 2130 hrs, there would still be a line. People are weak and the things they say in 60 secs, he couldnt even repeat as he was overwhelmed by emotion. One woman said 3 words over and over: no food here....Filipinos line up to get a flight out of Samar. They get on a plane with a destination unknown. They just want out of there. He said free transportation has been provided by the military from all over the world. Some of the military he saw were from the US, Japan, Sweden, Spain, and India. The Dutch were there too. It has been a global effort. Security is not an issue where they are. I asked as to why only Tacloban continues to be seen on TV and all he said was POLITICS. He continues to highlight the compassion and resilience the Filipinos have displayed. He said that people would come up to him saying thank you not even knowing what they are there for. He and his partner had to leave as they ran out of water. The good news is they found a place to set up and will return tomorrow with medicine for the locals, food and water to sustain them for 2 days. They will set up a clinic in Mercedes and salcedo, hoping that on day 3, more of their team mates will arrive with medicine. They plan on sending medical personnel to their location in 3-4 days. Jen, he tried to get a hold of you but couldnt get through. Rico and his team seemed to be in good spirits. I am still accepting donations for his team. All funds collected will be under Ricos name and he will get to decide where funds are going to spent.
