Im kind of begging for punishment here... Having read through the novels worth of comments left on my last status, my final impression is this: I find that the sins of the past do not concern me. I have a somewhat....turbulent relationship with Mormonism, and conservative religion in general, but my issues are with the present. Nothing and no one is perfect and all of life is a work of improvement. Lacking the deep emotional connection to faith, it is not threatening to me to hear about mistakes and abuses in the past. What is important to me is whether or not those mistakes have been corrected and the abuses endure. How has a person or an organization grown? The history of the Mormon church has just as many dark chapters as any other human institution. But how do they affect it today? We no longer practice polygamy. Joseph Smith restored the church, but hes dead and we have a current prophet who lives in todays world. I am more concerned with the issues the church is facing now than wringing my hands over the mistakes it made (and I would argue has overcome) in the past.
